The Old George was, as its name implies, once a public house but was converted to a dwelling around 1980. It is a unique rural/village property, not only because of its unusually large roms and historic interest but also in the features it offers and its location in the beautiful and desirable village of Hilton near St. Ives in Cambridgeshire.

Hilton is 2 miles from the A14 which gives good access to Cambridge and Huntingdon. Huntingdon has a main line station giving fast commuter access to London. Road access is of course very easy for the M11, but the A1 is almost as easy to access via Huntingdon. Also within one mile is Ermine Street, once the main road to London, so was once numberd A14 but is now renamed to the A1198. It is however a good, low traffic route to Royston and so to the A1 at Baldock.

Fronting onto Graveley Way, the Old George has a front lawn to the road, across which runs the public footpath. There is a duck pond on the other side of the road. To the east is Hilton House, a listed building (not visible in the photograph below). To the west is a pair of listed cottages, visible to the left in the photograph below. The Old George, although between two listed buildings, is not itself listed.

The aerial view shows the property with its walled garden and stables. The house as it stands would be an ideal retirement home, but with its large loft space and outside stable block, there is plenty of potential to extend the property. The outside stable block provides excellent outhouses which could be used for artists studio, craft workshop or office accommodation.

  The property has a completely walled garden which is a sun-trap. The back door opens onto a paved patio area (which could easily accomodate a large conservatory). To the rear of the patio is the lawn surrounded by flower beds. Behind this is a small fence separatting the concreted access to the stable vblock which forms the rear of the property - though there is space enough behind the stables for maintenance access. The gravelled driveway to the right allows access to the double garage and to the walled hard-standibg area. o the right of the driveway is a raised flower bed. The property is fenced to the right but the fence is close to Hiltom Houe whose walls effectively form the fourth wall to the garden.
