Additional information
Loose, inside the family pages of this bible, was a newspaper cutting of a obituary:
Late Mr H V Hewson
The funeral of the late Mr Henry Vincent Hewson (whose death occurred at Watton on Friday) took place in the church yard on Monday. The family mourners were :-
Nellie and Bertha (Daughters)
Mr and Mrs Harry Hewson
Mr and Mrs Walter Hewson
Mr and Mrs Roger Hewson
Mr and Mrs Ernest Hewson
Mr and Mrs Charlie Hewson
Mr and Mrs Fredrick Hewson
Mr and Mrs Thomas Hewson (Sons and daughter in law)
Among others were
- Mr Large and Mr F Preston (Swaffham)
- Mr Leonard (Carbrook)
- Mr G Kerridge and Mr E Steggles (Thompson)
- Mr Howard (Harling)
- and Mrs F C fox
The Widow was unable to attend.
The Rev A F Corney officiated. As the cortege entered the church the organist Mrs E R Jessup played "crossing the bar" and upon leaving Handel's "Largo".
The coffin was inscribed "Henry Vincent Hewson Died Nov 16th 1928. Aged 83 years".
The bearers were Messrs Alf Bird H Drewry L Jermy and Alf Jarvis. Mr H Smith
(Hockham) carried out all the funeral arrangements.
Notes
Our initial enquiries revealed that there is no record of the burial in Watton Church and the Vicar there in 1928 was Rev B J Failes. Subsequently we have learnt that Mr Henry Vincent Hewson lived in Great Hockham and is buried in the churchyard there.
It is interesting to note how important other peripheral information, such as the name of the newspaper, is to later identification of such a cutting.
